IT asset, procurement and service management roles are the control layer of technology operations. They track every laptop and license, buy equipment and renewals, manage vendor contracts, run incident, problem and change processes, keep the configuration database honest, and watch mobile and telecom expense. The family includes IT asset management specialists and technicians, software asset and licensing analysts, IT procurement specialists, vendor and contract analysts, ITSM analysts, change coordinators, CMDB analysts and telecom expense coordinators. Buyers hire them after an audit surprise, a renewal that auto-renewed at a bad price, a security incident that exposed unknown devices, or a service desk that cannot tell which change broke what.
This work is unglamorous and consequential. Poor asset records cost money in duplicated licenses and unrecovered equipment, and create data risk when devices leave without sanitization. Weak change control causes outages. The people we find for these roles tend to be methodical, comfortable with spreadsheets and tools, and willing to chase teammates politely and repeatedly. Before searching we help you decide whether you need a hands-on technician who receives, tags and hands off devices, an analyst who reconciles data and licensing, or a process specialist who facilitates change review. Each requires a different personality, and combining all three in one hire usually fails.
What we screen for
Certifications and platforms
We look for IAITAM CHAMP or CSAM for asset roles, ITIL 4 Foundation or higher for service management roles, ServiceNow Certified System Administrator and hardware or software asset management modules where the platform is ServiceNow, and CPSM or similar procurement training where relevant. We ask candidates to describe the actual data model they maintained and how they measured accuracy, since a certificate alone does not show whether a record can be trusted.
Lifecycle and disposal
For asset technicians we ask about receiving, tagging, imaging handoff, redeployment and retirement. We look for familiarity with NIST 800-88 data sanitization, certificates of destruction, chain of custody and ITAD vendor handling. A candidate should explain what happens to a laptop with an unknown encryption state. Casual answers about wiping or resale are a firm concern in regulated environments.
Analysis and negotiation
For licensing and procurement roles we use a small exercise: a renewal quote with more seats than active users. We see whether the candidate checks usage, asks about contract terms and recommends a position. For vendor analysts we look at contract reading, renewal calendars and escalation. We favor people who document decisions and share them with budget owners instead of keeping them privately.
Red flags
Be cautious of candidates who treat the CMDB as a one-time clean-up project, who facilitate change review as a rubber stamp, or who cannot describe an incident or problem record they improved. In procurement, any comfort with splitting purchases to dodge approval limits is disqualifying. Asset roles with no story about a lost or unaccounted device usually mean limited real tracking experience.
Where we find them
These roles draw from backgrounds that value precision. Warehouse, receiving and logistics staff who moved into technology environments become strong asset technicians. Inventory control and purchasing staff from other industries become procurement and vendor analysts after learning IT vocabulary. Service desk analysts with an eye for process move into ITSM analyst roles. Finance and accounts payable staff who reconciled software invoices become licensing analysts.
We also look at ITAD processors and refurbishers for lifecycle expertise, at software reseller account teams for licensing knowledge, and at consultancies that implement service management platforms for process depth. Telecom expense roles come from billing, accounts payable and carrier account management. We describe these pools by background type and avoid naming specific employers. We prefer to speak with candidates who can show a reconciliation they performed and the issue they uncovered.

How a IT Asset, Procurement and Service Management search runs
We start with the problem you are solving: an audit, a refresh, a renewal cycle, a process reset or a system migration. We ask what tools hold your current data and how trustworthy it is. If the records are poor, we discuss whether the first hire should be a clean-up resource, possibly contract, followed by a permanent owner. Screening includes a data exercise or a process facilitation scenario, depending on the role, and a reference call focused on reliability.
We are open about expectations. Experienced licensing specialists are scarce and often sit inside larger programs, so a narrow requirement may stretch the search. Process roles require patience and political tact, and we assess that directly. Engagement options include permanent placement for owners of the process, contract for a clean-up or a rollout window, and contract-to-hire where you want to observe the fit, with terms agreed in writing first.

Questions about this search
When will we see a shortlist?
We agree the search plan after checking your requirements for certifications and platforms and lifecycle and disposal, rather than promising a date before the brief is clear. We look for IAITAM CHAMP or CSAM for asset roles, ITIL 4 Foundation or higher for service management roles, ServiceNow Certified System Administrator and hardware or software asset management modules where the platform is ServiceNow, and CPSM or similar procurement training where relevant.
What if a candidate gets a counteroffer?
We ask what would make someone leave work involving certifications and platforms, and what could make them stay. Before you invest in interviews, we discuss whether your offer changes the problem they want to leave, including the responsibility for analysis and negotiation.
Should this role be remote or on site?
Experience with certifications and platforms and lifecycle and disposal does not settle the location question. Tell us what access and supervision the work needs, including who owns decisions about analysis and negotiation, so we approach people who can accept the arrangement.
How will you check fit before we interview?

We ask candidates to describe the actual data model they maintained and how they measured accuracy, since a certificate alone does not show whether a record can be trusted. For asset technicians we ask about receiving, tagging, imaging handoff, redeployment and retirement.
How does the fee work?
No upfront fee. You pay only if you hire. Agree the fee and the responsibilities covering certifications and platforms and lifecycle and disposal in the recruiting agreement before the search proceeds.
What if the hire does not work out?
We offer a candidate replacement guarantee on standard search agreements. The applicable period and exact terms are set out in the signed client recruiting agreement. Make sure the agreed scope includes what you expect of analysis and negotiation, rather than leaving that discussion until after the start.
