Tool

Build a pay range for a job posting

This is what we do all day: recruit technology and IT professionals.

Get the BLS 25th percentile to 75th percentile for a role and area, with the median, source and mapping, ready to paste into a posting. No email needed.

Unit

If BLS released only one unit for the occupation, the range shows in that unit. If an area is not published, the state or national figure is shown and labeled.

Choose a role, an area and a unit, then build the range. Figures come straight from BLS.

How this range is built

The range is the 25th and 75th percentiles BLS published for the occupation in the area, May 2025. We do not interpolate, adjust or project. Values BLS top-coded read "or more". Values BLS did not publish read "Not published by BLS".

Questions before copying a BLS band into an opening

Is this posting band a promise of what our company will pay?

No. It is the published BLS middle wage band for the selected occupation and area. Set the company's actual pay range from the duties and budget before publishing an opening.

Does the posting tool label wage percentiles as seniority levels?

No. A wage percentile describes a distribution of workers' wages. It is not a junior, senior or staff level, and the copied range keeps the occupation and source visible.

What should we do if a posting-band endpoint is not published?

Do not substitute a made-up endpoint. The tool labels missing or top-coded values, and any available wider-area comparison must name the area it actually uses.
